HMPV
Global Impact

Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV), part of the Pneumovirinae subfamily in the Paramyxoviridae family, contributes to 4-5% of severe acute respiratory diseases globally, targeting ciliated epithelial cells in the respiratory system. Studies show most children under five contract hMPV, which peaks in winter and spring, spreading via airborne droplets. It affects both humans and chimpanzees, with cases suggesting human-to-gorilla transmission. hMPV has a 4-6 day incubation and remains transmissible for 5 to 14 days. In children, symptoms mimic bronchiolitis, causing 5-15% of hospitalizations. While often mild in young adults, it can be severe in older adults or immunocompromised individuals, with long-term care outbreaks showing mortality rates up to 10%. Recurrent infections in older adults may result from weak immune responses or virus strain variation. SayGen’s HMPV Real-Time PCR Kit targets the highly conserved N gene across all four hMPV sub-groups, offering precision, stability, and affordability. Its lyophilized format ensures temperature-stable shipping and long-term storage, enhancing diagnostic efficiency.
